Disappointed in Green-Up with Crabgrass Preventer

Crabgrass typically germinates when soil temperatures reach 62° at a depth of 1 or 2 inches. Green-Up with Crabgrass Preventer should be applied when soil temperatures reach 50 to 55°. If you apply the herbicide too early in the spring, it may break down before the end of the germination cycle. This is not an exact date, but it is the best way to go as spring warmth varies year to year. A visual cue is to apply it when the forsythia blooms drop.

Heavy rains and intense heat may cause the physical barrier of the pre-emergent herbicide to break down.
